It almost feels as though autumn—the season of harvest—is upon us once again!

Climbing Mount Lu again

On January 27, 2016—a day of heavy snowfall and a rare glimpse of the seasons crossing over—I strapped on my crampons and set off toward Mount Lu, dozens of miles away. I trudged through knee-deep, sparkling white snow along the way, climbed the icy steps of Haohan Slope—countless hundreds of them—and navigated the long, winding mountain paths that seemed endlessly distant and hopeless. Yet amid it all, I came upon several branches of hardy plum blossoms blooming alone on the cliffside. Finally, I reached Hanpo Mouth—a breathtaking, utterly deserted paradise. The biting, bone-chilling wind swept across the ridge, striking my face with such force that even the smartphone I’d raised to take a photo instantly froze solid. It truly was as if trees had turned into popsicles and people had turned into dogs! But that wasn’t really the worst of it. After all, I’d chosen to walk the most challenging path precisely so I could behold the most stunning scenery.
